Inspiration

My inspiration comes from my experience of mental illness. I wanted to convey suffering, fogginess, and uncertainty through blurred and dark colors. The green helmet of mud cloth with “blood stains” portrays battle against mental illness, and gold represents victory attainable through Jesus. Faith in the Lord—shown through the cross of fabric—makes us more than overcomers. Ephesians 6:10, 13-17 tells us to “...be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power...Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace...take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
