Inspiration

In my mask, the horns portray power and strength. They stick out with gold tips to highlight the influence of God in society and controlled fire. With the fabric and beads, it forms a sense of loyalty to Ghana’s culture. The white dots run down the horns to represent peace within. They are small to describe how small peace is within the body mentally and physically. It aligns with the black stripe that runs down the eyes. Although it could symbolize mourning or spiritual energy, it could be seen as tears not easily perceived from afar. The colors black and white emphasize the sadness an individual endures. Lastly the red, which surrounds the eyes, represents struggle and sacrifice. The mask has seen racial disparities and continuous ignorance of mental health. The mask provides a disguise to hide the struggle, but the tears can’t be stopped unless it is acknowledged.
